Assembling boxes of food for elderly folks who can’t leave their homes. We’ll be back again on Wednesday and Friday.

Our company volunteered at the Houston food bank a couple of years ago. It’s backbreaking work.

It can be. I was just closing boxes as they came down the line. We moved 11,000 pounds of food tonight, enough for 9,000 meals.

Good work! I was in the sorting room where we c leaned and sorted canned and dry goods which were  delivered in giant bins. My job was pack mule. I unloaded the bins and delivered the food to the cleaning/sorting tables. At the end of the day, I was put on pallet duty since I was one of a couple of people who understood how to operate a pallet truck.

All the supplies we use are donated and usually already palletized. They bring it in with forklifts. This was one of the more pleasant jobs, putting things in a box as it moved down the line. The hard part is stacking and wrapping the pallets. That’s what kills my back.
